Côte d’Ivoire, Tano Basin
Unlock the depths of the Tano Basin with Viridien’s high-quality 3D seismic
Côte d’Ivoire is a hotspot for oil and gas exploration. The recent Calao discovery and the giant Baleine field, along with favorable geological conditions and government support, make it an attractive destination for energy companies. Ongoing exploration and production efforts indicate a promising future for hydrocarbon development in the country. Viridien's advanced 3D seismic dataset is your gateway to uncovering the area's full potential.
New and enhanced seismic data
Viridien has recently completed the PSDM re-imaging of over 6,400 km2 of seismic data, starting from field tapes and utilizing its latest market-leading proprietary technologies. The final products of the CDI23 project, completed in December 2024, offer a significant improvement from the legacy data. This cutting-edge data generates new insights, providing an unprecedented opportunity to uncover further prospectivity within the new carbonate and proven clastic plays on the Ivorian side of the Tano Basin. .
Building on the success of our CDI23 re-imaging project, Viridien, in association with Côte d’Ivoire's Direction Générale des Hydrocarbures (DGH) and PETROCI Holding (PETROCI), has initiated two new multi-client 3D re-imaging programs, CDI24 (3,120 km2) and CDI25 (6,610 km2).
Viridien continues to deliver best-in-class subsurface imaging to support exploration offshore Côte d'Ivoire.

Highlights
Extensive coverage: three multi-client 3D re-imaging programs merged to create a seamless and contiguous volume of over 16,000 km2, enveloping the recent Calao discovery and adjacent to the renowned Baleine field:
- CDI23 is ready for immediate viewing and dispatch
- CDI24 fast-track data will be ready in April 2025, with the final products available in October 2024
- CDI25 harmonized PSDM data is set to be released in Q2 2025

Exploration history and further potential
Exploration in the prolific Tano basin traditionally focused on shallower opportunities at depths of less than 500 metres, with several significant discoveries along the Ivorian margin. However, the findings in deep marine environments, such as Paon, Pelican, and, more recently, Calao, have redirected attention to the more distal areas of the basin.
The Baleine field, adjacent to Viridien’s CDI23 and CDI25 3D seismic projects, represents the largest offshore discovery in Africa for 2021 and is one of the biggest in the world for that year. Baleine came onstream in 2023, with hydrocarbons in place estimated at 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of associated gas, further enhancing confidence in the prospects of this once-overlooked basin.
Viridien's uniquely reimaged data possesses unparalleled potential to reveal further prospectivity in this basin. The recent discoveries have paved the way for a new play concept, illuminating key questions related to reservoir and source facies.
