Natural Oil Seeps and Seepage Detection
Reduce exploration uncertainty with global oil seep data
Our satellite-derived oil seepage database increases offshore exploration confidence by identifying active oil seeps in frontier basins and underexplored areas of mature basins, helping exploration teams establish the presence of a mature source.
Identify and categorize naturally occurring oil slicks
We utilize a unique petroleum seep detection technique that involves expert processing, interpretation and categorization of oil slicks on the ocean surface contained within Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. With experience dating back to 1992, our domain expertise in locating natural oil seeps is unrivalled.
Our complementary seeps-to-seismic workflow connects observed hydrocarbon seeps with underlying seismic data to establish correlations with potential source features.
Gain oil seep insight around the globe with Seep Explorer
Large-scale satellite oil seepage detection forms the core component of our multi-client, global coverage Seep Explorer product. Seep Explorer provides exploration teams with high-value insight into the location and characteristics of natural oil seeps and seepage-related features around the globe. Seep Explorer comprises two complementary datasets:
- Global Offshore Seeps Database (GOSD): Built on our unique satellite petroleum seepage detection technique, the continually expanding GOSD is the largest database of its kind in terms of both spatial coverage and temporal sampling.
- Fluid Features Database (FFD): Containing oil seepage features derived from seismic and other geological datasets, the FFD provides supporting verification and corroboration of the ocean surface oil slicks within GOSD.
Seep Explorer is available to license on a global, regional, basin or license block level.
